Excelsior’s apple turnover pastries have been a big part of the airline since the late 1980s, when the airline started serving these pastries on select charter flights as a dessert. It received widely positive reviews and became a fixture of the airline’s snack menu in the early 1990s. In January 2014, the airline announced its intentions to remove the pastry from its in-flight menu, which met international backlash from its passengers. The pastry was quickly brought back on board ahead of the Thanksgiving travel season, and boxed Excelsior apple turnovers became available in select New York metro area supermarkets for that year’s Thanksgiving season, with proceeds from boxed apple turnover sales going to charity. Excelsior promoted the return of their iconic snack with the #BackForGood campaign, announcing their intentions to keep the snack on their menu, and the charity aspect of the campaign. 3 jets wore the "#BackForGood" special livery, 2 Boeing 737-700s (N492ES, N118EC), and a Boeing 737-800 (N1204, pictured).
