3.2. Douglas DC-3 Nullarbor Australian Air Lines "1937-1947"

Shown above is VH-AWK, a 1939-build Douglas DC-3, delivered to Nullarbor Australian Air Lines in early 1939. AWK was the last aircraft delivered to the airline before World War II began. The DC-3 fleet, alongside its DC-4 sister fleet, which arrived after the war ended, would compliment and eventually replace the de Havilland Dragon and Dragon Rapide fleets on short- and medium-range routes. Much like the DC-4, Nullarbor would also keep two DC-3s in the fleet into the 1970s, however the final example left the fleet in 1972, alongside the final DC-4.
