As part of the United States Bicentennial celebrations in 1976, Wright Airways painted one of its DC-9s in a special '76 Freedom Jet livery and gave the aircraft a unique registration (N1776W), naming the jet Spirit of '76. The aircraft wore the livery from early 1976 until the end of the year and flew from Charlotee to Washington National Airport on the morning of Sunday July 4, 1976 with a full load of passengers and employees who were traveling to attend the bicentennial parade in the nation's capital.
Happy Independence Day
