Shuttle America––known largely as a carrier providing feeder service for major airlines in the US––actually began operations on November 12, 1998 as a low-cost carrier. Marred by financial difficulty following a rapid expansion (operating only six Dash 8-300s), the airline was purchased in 2001 by Wexford Holdings, LLC., which also owned Chautauqua Airlines. Once the ownership of Shuttle America was transferred, the airline began doing business for the larger airlines beginning with US Airways Express. Shuttle America was later owned by Republic Airways Holdings, and the company consolidated both Chautauqua Airlines (in 2014) and Shuttle America (in 2017) flying into Republic Airways.
