Italiaggio L1011 1972-1988

Italiaggio L1011 1972-1988

Here's an L10 11 belonging to Italian flag carrier Italiaggio in their classy 70s livery. Italiaggio (a combination of the Italian words for Italy and travel) had struggled after its inception immediately postdating World War 2. After a series of serious accidents early in the airline's existence, they developed a reputation as one of Europe's most unsafe airlines. However, that all changed when the Italian government nationalized the carrier in the late 1960s and hired a series of PR and design consultants to refresh the airline's image. The livery above was the result of this effort and hoped to cast the airline as a modern, sleek carrier. This L1011 was one of an order of 4 made by the Italian government in 1973 for the first wide body aircraft to join the Italiaggio fleet.
