Sakura Domestic Air Boeing 727 100 (1973-1990)

Acquired in 1966 the 727-100 served until 1991 when it was fully supplanted by the 737-100 and -200Adv which itself was replaced by the 737-500 a few years after. The small fleet was used on trunk routes and was moved to lesser demand domestic routes once 737-100's arrived in late 1968. Its high performance on short runways made it easier to use on routes that had demand but not enough runway length for jet operations.

In the 1973-1990) livery, named the full tail, saw the removal of the eagle cockpit, the top strip removed with a blossom added between the door and cockpit, connecting with a full painted tail, a white outline of a Cherry blossom. A black nose cone was adopted too, the JT8D's were left in painted chrome. Sakura Domestic had flown the aircraft for over a year without the Japanese flag on the left side until a airport employee noticed the lack of a flag, leading to a 250k yen fine. The specific aircraft was retired in January 1990 after 24 years of service. No 727-100 were painted in the 1990 livery.
