Northern Pacific Airlines Reborn | Douglas DC 10-30

Northern Pacific Airlines Reborn | Douglas DC 10-30

Northern Pacific didn't think they would need another widebody aircraft in the 80s. The Boeing 747 managed the demand fantastically, the Tristar was on its way out and the second oil crisis became a big problem for the airlines of the time. But when Northern Pacific got the chance to acquire a couple of DC-10's for cheap in 1984 the airline took it. The Idea was to use the aircraft for routes that were long distance but didn't have enough demand for the 747. The DC-10's were also fitted with a higher percentage of business and first class seats than the 747 fleet. The aircraft went on to become one of NP's more successful types and stayed in the fleet until the early 2000s. All DC-10's except one still fly as cargo airplanes, with the other aicraft being on display in the museum close to seattle next to the 727. With the DC-10 Northern Pacific launched its new livery.

livery active: 1984-2000
