Czechoslovakian Airways | DC-8-43

Czechoslovakian Airways is an alternative history airline. In this timeline the modern day Visegrad states (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary) did not become part of the eastern bloc. They became somewhat neutral states inbetween and had certain limitations and regulations in terms of trading and interaction with both USA and UDSSR. In this reality Czechoslovakia didn't split aswell.

The airline was founded after World War 2, as the country needed a new flag carrier. The beginnings were difficult since the political restrictions made it very difficult to get aircraft from either USA or UDSSR. In 1951 the airline was able to get a political agreement where they could acquire aircraft from the American manufacturer Douglas. The first passenger service started in the beginning of 1952 with the DC-6, with flights from Prague to multiple European capitals such as Paris and Rome. During the course of the 1950s the airline was able to expand their network and build a good baseline for the coming decades even with the political tensions they saw themselves between. In 1960 Czechoslovakian Airways decided to enter the Jet Age and since they had the permission to order and operate Douglas aircraft, they ordered the DC-8. The aircraft made is maiden flight for the airline in 1960 on the newly set up route from Prague to New York. The DC-8 flew for the airline until the late 1980s.
