The backbone of the fleet; Californian operates 27 MD-8x aircraft, along with 4 MD-90s and 7 Boeing 717-200s; these aircraft are the most used type in the fleet. Replacing smaller DC-9s in 1990, and completely phasing the DC-9 out by 1998, these aircraft are due for replacement in 2021 as well, after serving with safe reliable service for almost 35 years.
These jets are used all over the west coast, with limited service to vacation destinations in Mexico and service to western Canada as well.
