Omanwings has seen incredible growth in the past decade. The airline has transformed from a small carrier serving point to point routes to a major player in the Middle East, connecting millions of passengers every year between Europe, Africa and Asia through its Muscat hub. This growth lead the airline, in 2018, to move forward with a bold plan. At the Singapore Airshow in February, the airline announced it would be firming up an order for 4 Boeing 787-10s, to be delivered from early 2020. The aircraft were initially meant to be deployed on high-demand routes to London, Paris, Frankfurt and Singapore, where the extra capacity would be useful.

However, in late 2019, Omanwings revealed that this small subfleet would be utilized to offer a sort of ''flagship'' experience for the airline. What this meant was a completely new interior, unique to these 4 aircraft. For the first time in its history, the airline installed a First Class seat on its aircraft, with a single row of 4 seats at the front of the plane. The Business Class cabin on the 787-10 features the exquisite Fusio seat by Safran, complete with a sliding door converting the seat into a full-on suite. The extra length of the new Dreamliners, as well as the efficient use of space of the Fusio seat, meant that, not only could Omanwings install a whopping 40 of these on them, but they could also use the space in the L2/R2 doors as a reception/socialization area for First and Business Class passengers. The extended-length aircraft also gave the airline the opportunity to expirement with Premium Economy, something it had been eyeing for a while, with an exclusive 21-seat cabin spread across 3 rows, also becoming the launch customer of the revolutionary Haeco Eclipse seat. This left space for 220 Economy Class seats, which featured an updated hard product, and increaced legroom, from 32 to 33 inches. Interestingly, the flagship aircraft, with 285 seats, only has 6 additional seats compared to the airline's 787-9 fleet, a testament to the spaciousness of this configuration.

A4O-BG is the first 787-10 delivered to the airline. It was handed over on January 17th, 2020, and entered service on the Flagship OW001/OW002 rotation to London Heathrow. Plans were made for the remaining 3 787-10s to be used on the second daily Heathrow flight, one of the two daily Paris rotations and the Singapore flight, all on a daily basis, when they were to be delivered in August and November 2020 and March 2021 respectively. However, it only flew for a month and a half before being grounded on March 6th due to the COVID-19 crisis. With no end in sight to Oman's essential ban on international travel, there is no plan for the extended-length Dreamliner to take to the skies in the short term. However, its short tenure with Omanwings so far has proven to be highly successful, with extremely high passenger satisfaction levels appearing on its 6 weeks of service.
