Early 2000s: Post-liberalisation era

Early 2000s: Post-liberalisation era

The 21st century signified another new era for Aviaperú, starting with the signing of an open skies agreement between Peru and the US in 1998. Under the new agreement, airlines from both countries would be allowed to operate any number of passenger and cargo flights between them without restrictions on capacity, frequencies, aircraft types, and routing. Although it was initially predicted that open skies would end up putting Aviaperú at a disadvantage once again, it actually turned out to prove mutually beneficial to both Aviaperú and its US competitors, now that greater expansion into the US was made possible for Peruvian carriers. Aviaperú's partnership with Delta would also prove more useful after the liberalisation of Peru's skies.

Fleet expansion continued into the new millennium as well. With the addition of eight factory-fresh Boeing 767-300ERs in December 2000, Aviaperú's fleet count increased to 28 aircraft, which allowed for more frequent flights on the airline's most important routes.
