In 2007, Nihon Airlines took delivery of the first out of three Boeing 737-700ERs it had ordered. Under the newly created LuxuryJet moniker, the three aircraft flew on niche routes where all-business class or nearly all-business class aircraft would match demand. Configured with 24 lie-flat Business Class seats and 42 Economy Class seats, the aircraft flew routes such as Tokyo Narita to Kona, Mumbai, Shenzhen, and Yangon; Nagoya to Guangzhou; and more. However, in 2015, the aircraft were pulled as routes were upgauged to widebody aircraft, and were sold to private buyers. As a result, the narrowbody lie-flat Business Class era was over, for the time being.

In 2018, Nihon Airlines switched some of its Airbus A321neo orders to the A321LR variant, planning to equip the aircraft with lie-flat Business Class seats and operate longer, thinner routes from Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. The first A321LR arrived in late 2019, equipped with 16 lie-flat Business Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats. Dubbed LuxuryJet 2.0, the aircraft now fly from Tokyo to Chennai, Colombo, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, and Yangon, and will be opening new services in the coming months.
