CSA had Il-18 in service from 8th January 1960 till 19th January 1990 (30 years and 11 days).
Total of 12 but only 3 were the longhaul "D" series.
OK-WAI was delivered new 19th May 1967. On 5th September 1967 it flew on OK523 Prague-Shannon-Gander-Havana.
Just 30seconds after takeoff from Gander the aircraft crashed 1200 meters short of the runway. Out of 69 passengers and crew on board 33 perished.
The cause is undetermined till today but speculations considered engine malfuction or asymetric flaps deployment.
Damn I was working on a Czech airline before settling on Cuba, and this blows mine away. Well done!
