Boeing 747SP

Boeing 747SP

InterFrance brought the 747SP online in 1978, in order to open up new ultra long range routes. Paris to Perth and Honolulu became viable routes due to the SP's outrageous range. With a limited passenger capacity, Tahiti was available as well, although this sometimes required a fuel stop due to winds.

These aircraft served until 2002 when they were replaced by Airbus' A340-500 and -600, with those being replaced by the Boeing 777-200LR.

This aircraft is shown as it was in service in 1996.

Nice to see the short chubby SP in the inter france livery, nicely done!

    Pretty cool!

    this is pretty great

I love how the livery looks here but I've got ani issue with the story here...the SP's range is only 6655 nautical miles. That's less than the 747-200. It's just barely past Paris to Honolulu (though probably wouldn't be possible due to winds and required reserves). Perth and Tahiti are WAY farther from Paris than the SP can fly. The A340-500 and 777-200LR are vastly more capable planes, and they make sense as the ultra-long-haul part of Inter France's fleet, but not as a 747SP replacement, as they outperform it hugely.

Love the SO! And it’s simple and clean!

Thanks! I do love the little 747 haha. I’m partial to the shorter versions of almost every jet. They just look squat and powerful.
