Late 2000s: Merger with SAPSA

On 6 November 2006 Grupo Espírito Santo announced SAPSA's acquisition of 99.81% of Portavia's shares, subject to approval by the regulatory authorities. With SAPSA's acquisition it undertakes a new business model. The company stops working independently and starts working within a group logic as a supplier of flight capacity by hiring its aircraft for the new parent company. During the 2012 European Regional Airlines Association conference in Porto, SAPSA president and CEO Fernando Pinto said that Portavia is "important to the SAPSA family as it feeds passengers from small cities into long distance services."

On 21 March 2014, SAPSA announced that it would buy Portavia two ATR 42-600s to replace the smaller Beechcraft 1900Ds previously operated by PVA Express. Charter airline White Airways now operates the ATR family on behalf of SAPSA instead of Portavia.
