787 Retro Livery | 2015

Airline - Dhahrani
Aircraft - Boeing 787-9 | A9-VJE
Delivered to Dhahrani, 2015
Livery - Retrojet
Country - Kingdom of Dhahran

In 2015, Dhahrani took delivery of A9-VJE, the 5th 787-9 to enter the fleet. This was painted in a special retro livery, designed to commemorate the airlines 40th anniversary (which was about to occur in 2016) and based on the tail design introduced on the A310 in 1984, the first variant of the original 'quadruple-cheatline' design to prominently feature the calligraphic falcon logo on the tail. Several changes were made however made from the 80s design, for example darkening the purple used in the livery to make it stand out more, and making the design elements bolder (especially in the bird on the tail). The airline name was also displayed as Dhahrani instead of the original Royal Dhahrani Airways.

Disclaimer: This project is designed to look at the progression of aviation in a more-or-less generic fictional Middle Eastern state. The fictional Kingdom of Dhahran is located near the real Saudi Arabian city called Dhahran, but has no affiliation with it, and the name is a coincidence. Any other similarities to real people, locations, or situations may be intentional. I have zero knowledge of Arabic, so while I have spent considerable time trying to get it right, mistakes are possible, and any advice is greatly appreciated.
