In the early 90s, Pearsonian's widebody fleet was composed of only Boeing 747s, 757s, and 767s, but it wasn't enough to meet the rising demand of Trans-Continental Routes (ie Toronto - Vancouver) and a small but growing South American Routes (ie Toronto to Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, and Sao Paulo). To cope with this rising and virtually untapped market, the airline has ordered fifteen MD-11s while becoming the first Canadian MD-11 operator. This purchase helped ease the increasing air travel demand between two major cities in Canada and newly-opened routes in South America. C-GBBA was Pearsonian's first MD-11 to be delivered and was put out of service in May 15th, 2006.
