BOEING B767-300ER WL
Age - 26.4 YRS
Skywind operates a fleet of 20 B767-300ERs all fitted with winglets. These planes are assigned to medium/long haul routes such as Istanbul, Lagos, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Newark, Kenya and loads more. The B767s where chosen because Skywind wanted to have an aircraft capable of crossing the Altantic, fuel efficient and able to be assigned to shorter routes. Although the Airbus A310-300 and A300-600 were on the market Skywind felt no need in taking them as their fleet consisted mainly of Boeing aircrafts. The first B763ER for Skywind was delivered in 1993 which was G-SWEA however the 28 year old aircraft will be sadly retired this year and replaced by brand new B787-9s.
Only one 767 has suffered an accident under Skywind, G-SWES the aircraft shown above. While operating SK154 (LHR - YYZ) the plane overran the runway and the left engine dug into the ground as it left the runway completely destroying the reverse thrust cowl. The plane was evacuated quickly and only 22 passengers suffered injuries. The causes of the runway overrun was because of pilot error for not aborting the landing and initiating a go around because of the runway condition the second cause was the fact that the aircraft touched down quite late down the runway and also that it hydroplaned due to slush, still water and small amounts of ice on the runway.
i actually quite like this
and the grey engine cowling is a nice touch
