Delivered to Lufthansa as D-AIGR, named "Leipzig" in May 1999. D-AIGR was withdrawn from use and stored at April 2009, before being acquired by the Luftwaffe (German Air Force), bearing "98+47" as its number. The aircraft was then re-registered as 16+01, bearing the name Konrad Adenauer while being refitted into a VIP aircraft for Government use. The aircraft is in active service, along with its sister ship, 16+02, named "Theodor Heuss", another German Air Force A340 formerly operated by Lufthansa as D-AIFB "Gummersbach".
