TransWest's 1989 acquisition of Orange County-based Golden Pacific Airlines led to the introducion of the Boeing 737 alongside its fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-80s and DC-9s. The type proved to be an excellent backbone for the airline's short-haul fleet until its replacement by the A320 family in the early 2000's.
