In order to strengthen its Las Vegas operations, SunWest bought the assets of a local defunct regional carrier in 1996. Instead of the regular titles, SunWest Express was created as a regional branch. However, the LCC couldn't sustain 3 aircraft types, and in 1998, SunWest began replacing the BAe's with incoming Boeing 717's, and the last of the type was replaced in 2003. Most of the aircraft ended up sold off to various carriers around the world. Today, the routes formerly operated by the smallest 4-engined passenger jet are served by the Boeing 737-700, as SunWest now only operates one type.
