A Brief History of WAA: 1980 to A380

An aging Sir Norman Brearley stepped down from active leadership of the company in 1980, and his death in 1989, just six months short of his 100th birthday, was a source of great grief to the airline.

WAA executives were extremely excited by the announcement of the double-deck A380 in 2000, and became one of the A380's launch customers. The first West Australian A380, named in Norman Brearley's honour, entered service in 2007, flying WAA's new flagship route between Perth and London.
