Worldwide 1980s, Lockheed 1011-1

Worldwide (previously know as WWA - WorldWide Airlines) was founded in St Louis in the 1920s. It once was considered (alongside archival Pan Atlantic) the flag carrier of the United States. Whilst its pre-eminence has strongly withered, especially since the naughties, it remains a major domestic & transatlantic competitor.

The 80s were a prolific time for WWA. After the introduction of the 747 on its transatlantic routes, the Tristar was WWA's second wide body type. First used on transcontinental services with the -1, it soon found its niche on long haul flights not needing the capacity of the 747 with the -500 version, replacing the ageing 707s.
