Hong Kong Airways Boeing 777-200 | B-HKC

Hong Kong Airways Boeing 777-200 | B-HKC

Hong Kong Airways was founded in the mid-1970s as a response to the growing economy in Hong Kong and the demand for more flights outside of the provided service then. With two Boeing 737-200s, Hong Kong Airways started operations on August 30th, 1975, with Hong Kong Airways #101 being the inaugural flight to depart Kai Tak for Taipei's Songshan Airport. The airline expanded slowly, adding its first Boeing 747 in 1981, and starting flights to Europe shortly thereafter, flying the lucrative Hong Kong - London Heathrow route. Since then, the airline has reached all six continents, after starting service to Sao Paulo via Madrid in 2006.

Today, Hong Kong Airways is a key player in the Hong Kong market, with a modern fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft. The airline's livery features the Hong Kong "chop" logo next to the English titles, and the characters "香港" (xianggang, or Hong Kong) being painted on the tail, inspired by the fleets of junks that used to crowd Hong Kong's harbors. The airline's first Boeing 777 aircraft arrived in 1996, and the fleet now numbers 55, with Hong Kong Airways having operated all variants from the Boeing 777-200 to the Boeing 777-300ER. B-HKC was the third Boeing 777-200 to arrive in the fleet. Named Jakarta, its inaugural flight took place on January 3rd, 1997, and the aircraft is scheduled to be retired in 2019 with the incoming Airbus A350-900 fleet,

B-HKC is configured with 42 Regional Business Class seats and 288 Economy Class seats.
