AviaCubana 707-120

The first and only 707 operated by the airline, AviaCubana was one of the first airlines to order the revolutionary jet and one of the first to fly it, arriving in 1958 amongst the Cuban Revolution. Sadly the 707 was only operated for a year flying the flagship Havana to New York.

By 1959 Batista's government had been overthrown, months later Castro's government nationalised the airline, while the airline's sole 707 was operating prior to the revolution the U.S embargo against Cuba meant maintenance on the year old aircraft was impossible. She was sold shortly after making it into the fleet of Lantana Colombia where she would operate until 1979 when she was again sold to a private buyer based in Medellin, very little official records exist after that point until 2015 when the aircraft was discovered rusting in an old hangar at an abandoned airstrip close to Medellin along with a number of other aircraft.

The AviaCubana brand name and logo depicting the bee hummingbird native to Cuba survived however, its American built fleet of mainly DC-7s didn't and they were replaced by Soviet built aircraft since then.

I'm studying the collapse of the Batista government and the rise of the Castro regime. Great depiction of a realistic idea

    Interesting!

    Now this is nice. :D
