Bohemian Airways | Tu 154M 1970-1992

Bohemian Airways | Tu 154M 1970-1992

ČDC or Bohemian Airways changed their style in the 1970s which they kept until the end of the soviet reign and the collapse of Czechoslovakia. With this style change also came new aircrafts. The Tu-154 made its first flight for the airline in 1970 and quickly became an important part of the fleet. Besides the Tu-154 ČDC introduced the IL-62 for long haul routes. On short haul routes the Tu-124s and Tu-134s did their job as unreplacable workhorses.

ČDC despite the iron curtain could expand further and made itself a major airline in the soviet region. Even if the TU-154 was considered noisy, uneconomical and for some passengers unsafe most of the passengers of

ČDC liked the plane. So it came that the Tu-154s flew hours after hours and this for the most part without major problems. At the end of the 80s ČDC faced major concerns. The soviet union and its communist partners struggled and it was forseeable that at some point soon the communism would fall. The new government changes and the split between Czechia and Slovakia ment new challenges that the airline had to face.
