3. Vanguard Airlines 707 Fanjet ad - 1962

In the early years of the Jet era, airlines were quick to capitalize on the importance differences between their new jet services and the piston airliners of yesteryear. Vanguard Airlines was no different, taking a bold and unique approach. Rather than only offering increased numbers of flights between large cities, Vanguard jets went on "tours of the country" offering regular flights to smaller cities and towns in the Vanguard system. With the jet era, the airline adopted a new slogan, "A Southern Accent on Service." In addition to the Boeing 707, the airline also operated early jets such as the Boeing 720, BAC One Eleven, Convair 880M, Douglas DC-9, and turboprops such as the Vickers Viscount, and Fokker 27. The airline was one of the first to get an "all jet fleet" consisting of fan driven jets and turboprops, having phased out all of the piston driven airliners by 1964.
