6. Vanguard Airlines Boeing 767-300ER "1988-2002"

The 1990s were a hard time for the airline industry and Vanguard was no exception. The emerald airline was hit hard by fuel prices and a drop in air travel as a result of The Gulf War. However Vanguard maintained it's long history of military charters, and was a key part in the war effort, moving troops from state side to their respective stations in the middle east. Despite the economic hardships associated with the price of oil, the airline still managed to maintain a positive number of routes, vowing not to close any as a promise to customers and employees. After a brief bout with Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 1998-1999, the airline was looking to 2000 with high hopes. Also in 1998, Vanguard Airlines joined Dynasty World Alliance, a global alliance that brings the people of the world closer together.

In light of this partnership, Vanguard Airlines became the first American airline to fly to Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union. This aircraft, ship 417, took the inaugural flight from Washington D.C. to Moscow, arriving at Sheremetyevo Airport to a water cannon salute.
