018 - China Orient, Airbus A321-200WL

Another take on China Orient

Shanghai-based China Orient (mandarin : 中国东方航空公司) is China's largest privately-owned airline. It operates to a range of domestic, regional and intercontinental destinations. The airline's logo is a calligraphic take on the character (pinyin : dōng), meaning East or Orient.

China Orient's livery features the company's name in both english and mandarin. The mandarin titles opt for a more calligraphic approach, while the retro-like english titles are a wink to Shanghai's rich past.

The A321 is used on trunk domestic and regional routes.

(The livery is still partly inspired by BA's world tail "rendez-vous" ;), though I think it captures that more than the previous iteration)

    This is cool! Nicely done!

Simplified 'east' titles, but traditional 'east' logo? :P

Whats wrong with that? It's really common in china for a corporate logo to be traditional while the written title is simplified.

Really? I've been in China, however I've never seen that. I saw usually that companies following one side of the characters.

    this is purdy

Also, should point out, "中国东方航空公司" is literally the name of the real China Eastern airlines :P

    Thanks for the input guys!

Yeah, although I am in no way qualified to make assumptions regarding mandarin, I read that sometimes the traditional ideograms were used for logos and such, hence my choice. Plus "" looks way better than "东" :P

True that, I'll admit I'd rather use the real one that kinda makes sense (conveying the idea of "Orient" - or  "Eastern"), however I am open to any suggestion to update that ! :)

    中国东华航空

So what does the cloud on the front represent? China's horrific smog problem?
