Caribbean Airport changes

Posted by bAnderson on 25 September 2015 - 01:54 AM

Yes, the airports don't receive as many passengers as they should. The only reason the data for certain airports in the Caribbean is so low is because many airlines only operate seasonal flights. This should be taken into account when setting passenger numbers. Saint Maarten, for example, has roughly 2 Million yearly pax. However, in real life, of all the 26 Airlines that serve SXM, 8 serve seasonal routes, and Air Canada Rogue only serves the route seasonally.

In conclusion, the Caribbean is waaaayyyyy more popular than the game gives it credit for. A simple tampering of numbers (as realistic as the game is, I know sometimes you bend some numbers) will bring it to its true form.

Thanks!

The only realistic solution would be to add seasonality mechanics to the game, and that's not happening anytime soon. Bumping the passengers numbers of Caribbean airlines just so you can operate the amount of fights that are now operated during the holiday season means the airports would receive way more passengers than they should and it will allow people to open some very unrealistic routes to the Caribbean because of the higher demand. In other words; the proposed solution just creates new problems.

Right now AE simply isn't taking stuff like seasonality, or cultural/historical ties that boost demand into account, so the only realistic option is to wait for a new major update.

The only thing that can be done is update some of the Caribbean airports in the hopes that the most recent number is higher than the number used in game (which isn't allways the case for the Caribbean), and this is a time consuming task, since most Caribbean countries don't or only vaguely release official passenger numbers.

On a sidenote; as far as I know there are no bended passenger numbers, only if there are no official numbers available (yet), or if they are rounded off, but this mainly applies to very small airports.

Anyway, thanks for your input! :)

Yes, but Air France and KLM serve SXM, for example, and the demand would not let either of those aircraft come in 4x weekly. Also, WinAir flies from SXM-SAB, and the demand for the route is almost minimal. That's just one airport. Montego bay could use more demand as well, especially from airports in New York City, Chicago, Boston, and Washington.

Plus, waiting for a new major update has proven ineffective.

I know that there are a lot of real life routes that are not correctly reflected by the AE demand, for example because of historical ties (which is the case for the Air France and KLM routes to SXM). But there is right now also demand on AE for LH flights between for example SXM and MAD, BCN, FCO or any other main European city, even though in real life there are only routes between SXM and AMS/CDG.

Increasing the PAX numbers for SXM just so there's enough demand for 747s between SXM and said 2 cities means there's enough demand for 747s between SXM and countless European airports, which makes the situation even more unrealistic than is it now.

If we have to increase Caribbean airport's PAX numbers just because some routes on AE have lower demand than in real life we have to increase the PAX number of countless airports world wide, because the AE demand is too low on countless of routes (and you can't increase PAX in the Caribbean and refuse to do so in place B when players ask you to do so, which they undoubtedly will), and I don't have to tell you that this leads to an even more unrealistic overall demand then there is now.

I get that waiting for a new major update is ineffective, but this proposed solution is ineffective too, as simply increasing the PAX numbers in a certain region will never happen, unless you could somehow show that the majority of the AE players agrees on your suggestion the chances of it happening are far lower than AE getting a major update.

So I personally advise you to just go annoy Yuxi about hurrying up on AE4 :P

Note: As for SXM-SAB, I increased the PAX numbers of both airports, so the route will have more demand in upcoming new rounds.

Thanks. I just have realized that many Caribbean routes are inefficient and don't really help.

I operate a 9th Place Airline from Jamaica in (I know) S4, and I found that Montego Bay and Kingston both have quite high domestic and inter-Caribbean demand. As for their inefficiency, well:
