Flightgear Help

I know how to autopilot but i was wondering,

At what distance do you start ILS land?
Does it automatically position itself altitude wise? so that all I have to do is set up flaps and gear?

how do you set up a ILS? i have tryed, but it only positions you in the air, it dosent chande altetude, or flaps, and it still keeps controle of the throtle meaning it is very hard to reduce speed to land.
