Last week I posted about the runway restrictions preventing flights that in real life do occur. Specifically, I watch 757-200s and 737-800s fly to and from DCA all the time. It was satisfactorily concluded that using MTOW is a limitation of the game we can't overcome, so that's fine. Imagine my surprise when I arrived at work the other day, after the thread had been discussed, and saw a Delta 767-300 coming in for a landing. :shappy:

landing at DCA? maybe it has the enhanced take-off/landing performance added to the plane just like all of GOL's 738s that will allow them to t/o and land at santos dumont in brazil at full capacity.

Landing isn't a problem, its taking off. When landing an aircraft should be below max landing weight because of the fuel burned off during the flight. Exceptions are emergency landings where they have to dump fuel in order not to stress the airframe on landing.

Taking off is another issue... sure regular 738's, 752's, and 767's can take off from DCA... they don't need a lot of fuel to fly to ATL or JFK from there... They're not going to Europe from DCA, right?

Oh, owned, hehe, yeah and DCA has a no international flight rule, expect for Carribean and i guess canada so it was probably a short hop,

Apparently, I completely by chance witnessed history, as it was the first 767 ever to come into DCA. It was a flight from ATL. There's a whole thread on it over at airliners.net, and videos of the takeoff and landing at youtube. ;)

767's come in to DCA all the time...yes there are no flights to europe but there are flights to the west coast..LAS PHX SEA LAX so planes do take off from there with big load of fuel

I had to look this up, but actually the 767-200 could take off from DCA at MTOW... the 767-300 has a range about double that of the distance from DCA to the west coast but doesn't need much more of a runway even at MTOW so no prob making it to the west coast from there on the needed fuel load for that trip. The 737-800, surprisingly, actually takes a fair amount of runway at MTOW... more than any of the 767's except the -400.

the 767-300 is in fact a rocket. Amazingly high performer.

i was in DC yesterday but unfortunate did not see any 763s going in or out of DCA. but i saw a lot of A319/32Os and some 757. i saw marine one coming in to the white house, too as i left the air/space museum.

btw, does everyone know that there is a good, unobstructed view of newark's main runway? unfortunately you have to be on the nj turnpike! lol

It's the same for Princes Juliana airport (SXM) in the caribbean. It's only a short runway yet 747's from all over the world land there. (Air France, KLM and Corseair fly)

I got to see a FedEx 757-200F taking off from DCA this morning ;) That was exciting. Also spent some time waiting for a flight out of Burlington VT (BTV) on Monday, that was fun. Aside from Jet Blue's Airbuses, it's mostly regional jets and turboprops. But as an added bonus, the VT Air National Guard, "The Green Mountain Boys" were getting some stick time in the F-16s, practicing takeoffs and landings, and maneuvers around the area. Dual-use airports like that are neat. In between all the civil air traffic, suddenly you'd hear this roar as a fighter took off, sometimes with afterburner, sometimes without. Good stuff.
