Okay this may seem like a dumb question but i still don't get how to buy used planes?

Could be you are using a DOT in price, you buy using straight numbers like:
10000
not
10,000
Also, how many airlines do you have?

I don't know if anything has been done yet to de-bug the used market but buy with caution in the Sim2 used market. A lot of people have bought planes and never got them or got the plane and put it on routes and then lost the plane later, still getting charged for the gates on the route it was on.
I decided to take a risk and just bought a Beech on the used market, I don't know what I actually paid for it, the email I got said:
"Your bid for a Raytheon Beech 1900D was accepted by xxx xxxx for $-180,000.You now have full control of this aircraft, and may schedule it on routes, or place it back on the market."
I think it cost me about $10 mil. I'm waiting until later in the month to place it on routes to make sure its not a ghost plane, I wasn't going to put it on any routes that I can't still replace but don't feel like paying for gates all game that I don't have. When I bought it it was on a route but the gates it was using for the route didn't show up in my gates page. I just closed the route and now its empty with 22 hrs available. It concerns me a little bit because I looked up the airline I bought it from and it operates in Europe but the route the plane came with was in SE Asia. The airline's finance page actually shows -$180,000 for Aircraft sales.

I bought another plane to test it further. There are some ATR-72's listed so I thought I'd try for one. This time I tried my first bid at 17,500,000, the value of the plane... nothing happened so I removed that bid and tried again. Second bid was for 19,000,000 and it found me one. Said I paid $-350,000 this time. The selling airline's finance page again shows $-350,000 and I was charged exactly 17,500,000. It came with some routes attached that I don't want since they are in the wrong part of the world but a decent DOP so I haven't cancelled them yet. Too bad I don't get to keep the slots when I cancel the routes, 2 of them are at an airport that is sold out of gates.
I went back and re-read all of the threads about the used market problems. Sounds like the people who lost the planes after purchase lost them right after the purchase. For sellers it sounds like these planes with routes attached are ones that someone listed on the market and then delisted, putting the plane back on routes. The other threads indicate that the market isn't actually delisting the plane with you delist it so when the plane sells you loose control of those slots and can't return that gate anymore.
I'll keep monitoring these two planes and update on here later.

Honestly, i suggest NOT playing around with the used aircraft market. Not worth your time or money. Your either short-changed, lose out, or just see the plane disappear
Yep with you on that one!

Unfortunately it's the risks of the Used Aircraft Market, I lost 320,000 on a Q300 Yesterday
FYI - I just sold a J-31 (yes, a J-31) for 3.4m. The buyer was charged 6m instead, and i got -150,000 in aircraft sales.
That's just what shows on your finance page. You should be getting the same amount of actual cash as the buyer is actually charged.
The planes I've bought, I've mostly been charged the actual value of the plane.

Price negotiation isn't possible in the Sim2 used market. The market determines the sale price, the buyer nor seller get any real say in it.
Having said that, its important to note, buying any J-31's or Beech's will be risky because there are so many listed... there will be a lot of ghosted planes in that list. You will likely loose the plane and routes sometime after you purchase it. You should search the forums for other threads about the used market, it has a lot of problems right now.
