But i'll suggest it anyway! :)

How about, as with the gates at most terminals, have different types of gates at different prices. :sdrool:

I don't mean crazy-ish, but I mean, for example, SYD.. 40x short-haul gates, 25x long-haul gates, 10x A380 gates.

That way, certain aircraft could only be used at certain gates.. and only airports with A380 capabilities would have A380 gates.

That prevents..
a) Airlines putting $1 A380's on routes not capable of having an A380..
;) The market of each airport getting over-flooded with domestic or international flights.. and
c) Regional airports operating obscene international flights (NTL-LAX - face it, it's NOT going to happen).

It would be a LOT of work, but i'd be glad to help with it, for the benefit of those playing the game.

It would also make the gate standards a lot more realistic - YBCG/OOL/GoldCoast has about 12 gates - but for the sake of the game it should be increased to about 30 - with 20x shorthaul and 10xlonghaul (max A330).

I mean, I know we have a lot of players here, so therefore the realism needs to be pushed a little to give everyone a chance.

I would be willing to give this my full and undivided attention - and would be especially capable in the Australian region - considering 1. I live here and 2. I know a lot of aviational people in Australia also.

If you don't understand a word of that, let me know. :shappy:

The implication of such a system would also effect the current slot system, which is 5 slots per each gate.

Now we all know that each aircraft in each category has a certain turnaround time, e.g. 737s and A320s can be turned around in 20 mins while an A380/B747/B777/A340 take around 120-180 mins.

The problem would be just determine what average turnaround time to use on each aircraft and how to make sure that an A380 uses enough slots as its turnaround time, since it consumes more time at the gate then say Boeing 737 or A320.

We actually started discussing a system like this a long time ago. Basically it was some kind of gate currency system where bigger airplanes would require bigger gates. Unfortunately, its a healthy undertaking that is behind several higher priority additions.

I won't kill you, it's a good idea. I think the game does need more regulation on certain types of aircraft at certain airports. Hell, it would be cool to decide on how many of each gate type to have when building a terminal. A380 gates would cost more money, regional gates would cost less money. I like that idea.

id love a system like that. i think there needs to be a bonus for flying regionally. if all you do is long hauls to europe from the us then it takes away from the reality of the game. how many airlines rely solely on their trans atlantic routes? not many. most airlines are regional with a few flights out of the country. i think a regional bonus would go a long way....that said as miller said before there are many other things on the priority list. but thats just my 2 cents...if i could fly regionally and compete with the guys who fly continent to continent id be very very happy though.

There is probably a less complicated way to do this.

The planes already have required runway data in the game. Just input the longest runway of each airport and set the game up so you need to operate the aircraft within those constraits.
That way an A380 won't be serving smaller airports because the runway is too short. Also it will force people to think more about their aircraft choices for all routes.

brilliant. that would definitely help. that way people cant crash routes like ATL-BHM with a380s all the time. that would be a great addition. would that be hard to implement?

Yes brilliant idea that could probably go into the airport info area on the detailed info. It would really add another great bit of realism into the game. I would be more than happy to get airport runway lenghts of all teh airports if you would like me to?

You could if you want, but it would be quite a waste of time considering the in game list already has the runway lengths in it =).
