FedEx has cancelled its 10 A380Fs on order, the first airline to do so and followed up by ordering 15 B777Fs + 15 more options.

A major blow for Airbus i imagine, especially considering there was only 2 freight airlines that had ordered the A380F and rumours were Korean Air were perhaps looking at order the type aswell. Though, FedEx did expect these to start been delivered by 2008, by the revised schedule surely didnt help them, as they are continuously expanding and wanted more aircraft, especially in Asia, to meet growing demand.

Good news for Boeing. Another customer for the B777F program and will be nice to see them flying soon :P

Guess its make or break for the A380F right now, since we dont know yet what UPS will do. We will see...

I'm a supporter of Boeing though only because Delta has no Airbus.

I wasn't trying to start a flame war, Maestro. Was just stating that I dislike the A380, and I prefer the 777. I actually like both manufacturers, and I enjoy flying the other Airbus creations, I just don't like the A380 heheh...

Guess I should have phrased it much better. Apologies. :P

Not really all that surprising. When you consider the growth rate of the freight carriers. Add the fact that AB can't tell when the first pax model will enter service, let alone the all-cargo variant.

Living in the shadow of a cargo hub though I like seeing the variety.

This move is part of Fedex plans to get the A300-600F line re-opened. It is pressurising EADS quite heavily into doing this. The 777s will be ditched if EADs do relent and re-open the A300 line. UPS have expressed an interest in a further 75 A300s if the line re-opens.

The A380 delays do not affect the freighter versions. The problems with wiring are primarilly related to IFE.

Watch EADS for news of a soon to be lunched A317.

He? A317? And FedEx actually prefer the A300s over 777s? Sounds interesting to say the least... Where do you get this sort of information from?

As for the A380s: yes, the problems are with wiring for stuff that won't be on the freighter versions in the first place, but I actually expect that the delay will be for all A380, regardless of version...?

A317 - An attempt to capture some of the market from Bombardier and Embraer in the regional market. There were actually two projects at one time, the A316 (95 seats) and A317 (115-125 seats). I'm only surprised that they haven't tried smaller capacity aircraft sooner. It gives them the ability to offer more appealing deals to the airlines for all the types of aircraft.

Maybe if they can sell the A317, Boeing would reopen the B717 line? :P

I had found out about this kind of A317 myself, but that not only seems very unlikely to me, it has nothing to do with the A300/777 issue. Or am I missing something here?

I thought i would post the A317 news while we were on the subject of Airbus. I live only a few miles from EADS Hawarden where they make wings for Airbus. The A300-600ST flies over my house several times a day. I have friends who work at EADS who relay me interesting news.

The A300 factory was due to be cleared away to make room for the A350 factory but this has not happened as yet. They will be able to revive the A300 program fairly quickly if the orders restart.

According to the article here, BMI already fly the A317 on Heathrow to Inverness.

Their is huge demand for A300 converted freighters at the moment. Any re-opened line will be only A300-600F. Just look at the speed FedEx is snapping up second hand A300 A310s. Any A300/310 that comes onto the market FedEx snaps them up and converts them.

Still not further news from EADS. Will keep you posted.
