Ok, we have a problem.

  1. A320 is much cheaper than 737-800.
  2. A320 has less fuel flow even against a with-winglets 737-800.
  3. A320 can hold same number of seats as 737-800.

However, in real life:

  1. A320 is slightly more expensive than 737-800.
  2. Not sure about fuel
  3. Airlines put more seats on 737-800
  4. AIRLINES USE THE 737 MORE!!!

Which is a problem, because I use the A320 more due to stats incorrect in AE.

I haven't found a reason to use the 737-800 rather than A320.

Have I missed anything? Can AE fix this problem?

I see the same and normally start with A320s. As I build though, normally move to A321s and then order B737s for the 2 sizes and deliveries.

I only use B737s with LCCs, where I use 737-700/800/900ER (737-900s non-er SUCK), and also A320s.

Otherwise (e.g. my airline Whippers in R7), I use A320s. But I do like Boeing - I use 747/767 too, as well as MD82 and 83.

The A320 has always been my favorite starter aircraft, eventually becoming a mainstay for building up a short-haul fleet.

There is a big reason why lots of Airlines prefer A320 instead of B737-800 in real life.

Most European airlines use the A320 family while in the USA most airlines go for the 737 family. It could be a sense of supporting the "regional" industry or something.

Also, the list price are not a good indications on the actual purchasing price. I'm sure Both Airbus and Boeing gave big cuts for big orders or for some airlines to break the market. Last time I've heard, they gave up to 25% to 30% discount under certain circumstances. Indigo order 410 A320neo, AirAsia order 304 A320neo and 100 A321neo. They probably get discount as big as 40% to 50%. That kind of big order would make A320ceo/neo way cheaper compared to B737-800/Max8.

True, but let's suppose that both families have a very similar price. No matter which family you choose, if you make a big order such as Indigo or Airasia for A320s, you are still going to get evenly mached discounts.

Airlines may buy planes to show their commitment to a certain manufacturer, it also depends on their fleets because even though an a320 let's say may be cheaper than a 737, if you don't have any a320 family jets in your fleet already it will be more expensive to maintain the new planes and less profitable in the long run. Just like in AE

I do agree that the Airbus A320 is cheaper than the Boeing 737-800 in AE, and that is why I normally use the A320s in game. In real life, some airlines use the A320 while others use the 737.

Even though I'm from America, I tend to operate an all-Airbus fleet in worlds R6 and S3-C partly because the A320 was my starter plane. By sticking to just one manufacturer, maintenance costs would become lower. That means flying the A340 instead of the B777 as it shares a common architecture with the A330.

In R7 my airline Whippers has:

  • Airbus A320-200
  • Boeing 747-400 and 767-300
  • 777-200 (upcoming)
  • McDonnell Douglas MD-82 and 83 (the latter is now completely retired)
  • Bombardier CRJ-100 and 200 (launch customer and only operator of both!)

That's FOUR companies of aircraft I use!

The 737 is the most popular plane ever.

well, the 737 800 has a better fuel efficiency (based on fuel flow) in airline empires. And the fuel flow difference between a320 and 737 900 is quite big tho. But, If im starting a new airliner, im gonna use the a320 anyway because its cheaper, and gonna move either to a321 or 737 900er for fuel(a320 has less fuel flow than a321 and 737 900, but a321 and 737 has better fuel flow in terms of "passenger") and more passenger. But I dont know is it the same on real life.

use less type of aircraft, you will spent less money on maintenance

For almost all of the engine choices, the A320 has a better fuel flow than the 737-800 or 737-900 (Non ER).
