The capitalist food system sucks.
Grow.
Harvest.
Eat.
Save seeds and compost.
Repeat.
Since I use recycled materials, this process is totally for free. Because I compost, I don't need to buy fertilizer. And because I use mulch from dead leaves and twigs, the soil stays moist on hot, dry days, so no need for irrigation. And because I give the excess to my neighbors for free, they give me stuff I cannot grow in my yard.
Total cost: $0.00
Another benefit is that, while I do get some pests, it is not much of a problem and the plants will grow fine without toxic pesticides. This is because I don't plant single species of plant in huge monotonous rows. I plant different kinds of plants so pests have less chances of running over my garden. And because it is grown right where I eat it, I don't need to treat it with chemicals to prepare it for long distance transport. The ones you buy from groceries are loaded with chemicals. Grocery apples are the worst offender. They are toxic, and expensive, and are not fresh. So why spend so much money on something that is toxic when you can grow something clean and fresh for free.
Challenge:
Grow something you can use as food or even something medicinal. Update me about your progress.
Don't give me that excuse that you live in an apartment because I grow in pots and sometimes I grow on other people's lands.
