Okay, I get that there is political restrictions that keep me from making certain flights, but would someone please explain what the political restrictions of starting in the USA put on me? like I was trying to make a flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong and it told me that I could not do it due to political restrictions. Would someone please explain to me the exact political restrictions of the USA. You would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Well, you did say that your airline was a US based airline, right? Well, Tokyo and Hong Kong are not territories of the United States, like how Puerto Rico and Guam are. You can still fly into Tokyo and Hong Kong, but not operate on routes between the two cities without stopping through a US city or a US territory.

Agreed as above. You can have any route between any two airports, anywhere in the world, as long as at least one of those airports is in the USA (or Guam or Puerto Rico). So you can fly LAX to Tokyo, or Guam to Hong Kong, but not Tokyo to Hong Kong. You need to be a Japanese or Hong Kong (Chinese?) based airline to do that.

Having said that, you can't fly from the USA to Cuba or Iran, because they're evil apparently.

Also, certain airports within the USA also have range restrictions, such as La Guardia in NY or Washington National. So you couldn't do LAX - LGA for example. Dallas Love Field in Texas also has annoying restrictions. If you google the real life airports you can get more info on that.

Okay, thanks to both of you, I get it now, I can only fly from a US territory or a US state to any airport other than Cuba or Iran as long as it involves a US airport. Thanks guys!

Last time I played in China I had no privileges in HK whatsoever, which was a profoundly annoying limitation (but a bit less than completely blocked Taiwan is). I'm OK with no international routes, but only 10 gates for mainland flights :/ ... I learned how to live with it but they could at least let mainland airlines rent 20 gates or something. :P

You also can't fly to the most democratic glorious worker's paradise on Earth, I suppose because everybody hates being in a bad movie and someone has a hard time dealing with complex emotions concerning James Franco and because nobody really likes Seth Rogen, or some stupid stuff like that.

Or because Ilyushin 62 is actually the most beautiful and efficient airplane ever made and nobody wants your capitalist machines of death and propaganda to poison the truth.

And to Libya and Syria, just because.
