So the topic first emerged late 2013 early 2014 when Turkish Airlines CEO announced that they were considering buying or leasing the A380 or B747-8i for new routes. The topic has once again emerged this Tuesday when Turkish Airlines CEO announced that they would place their order late 2014 for either the A380, B747-8i and now the B777X or the B787

Surprisingly they got high load in Istanbul, they uses lots of A321 instead of A320 for european routes, which means their regional market are quite high, especially when Istanbul are one of the biggest city in Europe and quite famous destination for tourist around the world. In my country it's the gateway for European Tour package along with Dubai (EK), so I'm thinking A380 and B777X for their long-haul market.

Everyone wants TK to get the A380 and I do as well but IST Airport doesnt have the capacity to deal with the A380. Well they could still Store it in an european airport and just do flights with not maintaining it in IST. Thats ok, but the other way isnt ok!
A new airport is Being built in Istanbul and it will be super big shechuled to open in 2019. You can put any aircraft there. It has a capacity of 150 million passengers per year!!!!!

I am just ot shure, if the A380 would be reliable for turkish Airlines for euopean flights, like germany for example.
There, they have to pay lots of taxes on each landing, compared to similar european Airports.
Even if they would buy A380, I dont think, its gonna be more then 10 pieces.
because an turkish Airlines flight to Frankfurt is never going to be cheaper then a cheap airlines hop, like Sun Express for example.
I for example booked a flight for next week from Munich to Ankara Esenboga (Capital of the Republik of Turkey) for just 338 euros (with Turkish Airlines) in January this year.
How can even Turkish Airlines improve this very nice price, by itsself ?

I don't think A380 would be used for regional flights to Europe though, they would probably used it for High-Demand Asian market, like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Delhi and etc.

It was suggested that they would use the A380 to Shangai, London Heathrow, Sydney, San Francisco and other major cities

And u should add an A330NEO option to the poll as well. Because I am very sure they will use it.

Does the slots restriction really that bad in LHR?

Heathrow is at 98% capacity bear in mind. There's as load of suggestions as to how to combat it.

I mean, surely they got enough slots to fill their demand with plane like A321 right? they've been flying there for a long time, surely they already secure enough slots before Heathrow became that crowded

Theyve alreadly leased a B777 from Jet Airways to fill up demand and they use their own a330 - their a321 is not big enough to fill demand

You forgot that they're also considering A330neo, not less important at all since they already have A330 (and A340) flying and on order, and more numerous than their 777s.
I suppose sticking with A330 or 777 might be the most financially viable for them...
If they want something bigger, I would love to see 747 live on and get more passenger version orders for the -8, but I guess an airline without an A380 isn't as prestigious these days, even though I think 747 still looks way more cool... But A380 isn't that much of a novelty 10 after years in production, so I guess 747 might get more interesting and popular again.
By the way, shouldn't this topic be at real life aviation instead of AE discussion?
