For the MD-83,88,90-50: Boeing 737-800/900 or Airbus A320. MD-87: Boeing 737-700 or Airbus A319

You can try A320 with the worst engine(the one that cost the least)for MD-81/82/83/88
MD-87 can be replaced by 737-600/700
MD-87 can be replaced by 737-600/700

That's 'cause the 717 lacks range to replace the MD-87 completely and lacks capacity and range to replace the bigger versions.The 717 is best used as a DC-9 replacement.
