Just took delivery of the first of these birds. I know the Russian jets guzzle fuel but this is ridiculous! Are the numbers correct for fuel burn on such a small jet?

Oh wow, IL96s are rather large...

But yeah, Russian jets aren't fuel efficient since they didn't have updated Western efficient engines, but older less efficient Soviet engines and overall older designs :P But, the TU154 and TU204 are fairly efficient however.

Well:
1) It's Russian build from a time when oil was cheap
2) it's a quad
3) the fact that so few were built and sold (even to russian airlines) might show that it actually is a gas guzzler

I ordered 100 of them thinking it was a good size airplane for a lot of routes. When half of the plane is full of connecting passengers, the plane looses money on each rotation! If it's full of O&D, it barely breaks even!

 

Maybe I'll have to cancel this order..
