Need more info, but rule of thumb, stay off routes that face competition until you make money, do not start at an expensive airport, fly to a long distance destination if possible to maximize money you make.

If using a jet, try to fly farther than 600 miles, or you will burn more in fuel than profit.

Try very very hard to stay under the radar of anyone bigger than you.

Adjust ticket prices until you get maximum profit, usually this means 100% loadfactor or close to it. I adjust in $10 increments until I find the "sweet spot". If you can't make money on a route, get out and find another. Seek out smaller airports that might not have as much competition.

About the 600 miles thing, I've used jets on flights well below 600 miles and made tons of profit. Although longer distances do generally equal more profit. Finding high demand routes with little or no competition is a major plus.

At first, try to utilize a lot of your gates, i.e. don't rent 8 gates at different airports, rent 2 or 3 and fly between them, and then slowly expand. Also, stay within the same aircraft family to minimize maintenance costs. I think the rule is, don't buy an aircraft if you don't plan to buy at least 10 of them eventually, not sure where I heard that but it makes sense :P
