What are the benefits of a hub?
Hubs provide you with connecting passengers on routes departing/arriving at that hub. However, a hub also doubles your gate rental fees at that airport (due to extra staffing costs).
If you are leasing gates it will also allow you to lease more gates then you could if it was not a hub.

Is our original starting airport automatically a hub, or do you have to designate it as such?

No your original starting airport is not automatically a hub you still have to (designate), or purchase it. It will cost a few million as the hub "start-up" fee.

So when are you able to open a second hub or is that possible? Also, what's the benefit of opening a terminal? Thanks!

I found out the problem. I'm in a one hub limit world.
