I don't know if this has been suggested before, but one option to add is the ability to leaseback your planes. Say you are running low on cash, you can sell your aircraft to a lessor, and then lease it back. That way you keep control over the aircraft, depreciation is off your books, and you get a cash infusion.

Also subject to rampant abuse unless proper tracking is implemented.

No more abuse than the current system... you have to have bought the aircraft to be able to sell it to lease it back in the first place... no different to "sell to market" except it just stays in your fleet under a lease agreement.

You can also sell it to the market and then wait for it to appear there, and lease it

OP is talking about leasing out one's own owned aircraft for profit-making purposes.

Yes, but to be able to sell and leaseback an airframe, surely you must own the airframe before you can sell it? You aren't making profit per-se, but you get an influx of cash without the penalty of losing the income provided by the aircraft. The same as any real-world airline (jetBlue, Ryanair, easyJet, IndiGo come to mind)
