Hello all!

I am somewhat new to the game, but have played it for almost a year now and managed to get a top 10 ranked airline twice.

I have right now an airline in S1, based in Sweden, and am getting a bit tired of trying to get a functioning major hub since I notice that the competition isn't only with the other airlines based in the same countries to and from I want to fly, but also against airlines from other countries.

For example, the route ARN (Sweden) - RHO (Greece). I wish to open some flights there but surprise surprise.... Element Airways, based in Copenhagen and officially a danish airline, has some flights there and therefor gives me some competition. This airline (Element Airways) flies on several routes between Sweden and other non danish countries. When I try to set up a route that doesn't start or end in Sweden, for example COP (Denmark) - RHO (Greece) I get the screen that I cannot fly that route due to political restrictions.

Why is that? Has it been hacked, or is it a bug, or is it a benefit of being in an alliance, or what?

Thank you to all developers and moderators for a fantastic and fun game. =)

Isn't that because of European Open Skies? After 1999 the political restriction in game should be lifted. That is if you're a EU/EEA based airline.Giving you the right to fly any intra EU/EAA routes.

But my airline is based in Sweden, hence that rule should apply to my airline as well...

CPH is Copenhagen, COP might be located outside the EU?

[Edit] Or RKE for the other Copenhagen airport (Roskilde I think?)

I liked TW and it's gone. NW, and it's gone. CO, and it's gone. Pray I don't like you.

Both Denmark and Sweden are in the EU, so EU openskies applies to both countries.

COP is an airport in New York State, USA - I assume you mean CPH?

If you wanted to give this 'Element Airways' a run for his money, just open routes up from Copenhagen.

No reason why he would want to open up from "COP", there's no demand at all... And he did say he saw Element Airways.

However, I've tried and it works, additionally given that the world is in like 201X, and thus EU OSA should have been opened. Might be a bug :/

I'm sure that if your an airline based in Norway/Sweeden/Finland/Denmark you can fly from any airport from Norway/Sweeden/Finland/Denmark to another EU Port. So if i set up an airline based in Oslo, i could fly ARN-ZRH. I think that's how it works.

Thank you for all your replies!

Must have been a bug, because I just couldn't open a route between Rhodes and Copenhagen (and yes I meant CPH not COP =). But now suddenly, I can. Time to buy some new planes and start the prizewars. =)

I was just thinking about this today. Pan Am and TWA had hubs in Europe, flying intra-European routes.

The question is whether Pan Am and TWA had 5th freedom rights on those routes. UA and AA recently (but not anymore) flew BRU-LHR, but they didn't have 5th freedom rights.

I dont remember :S All IK is Pan Am had a hub in Templeholf and later Tegel. 727/737 base.

(Thanks to Wikipedia.)

It was because German airlines weren't allowed operate out of Tempelhof/Tegel through 1990. Pan Am was awarded the contract to provide domestic air service ex-West Berlin.

I thought Sweden wasn't in the EU....have they been voted in recently? Or is it Norway that's always been out?
