hello everyone. im curious to know what aircraft have led people to the best success on very short, high capacity routes, for example 500 demand and about 100-200 miles? thanks for any suggestions!

You just can’t beat the Airbus A420.

Try something like the Avro RJ100 or CRJ-900/1000
Or the A318.
Or the ERJ-175/195
Basically any regional jet that has somewhere in the ballpark of 75-150 seats.

Anything between the A310/757 and the A330/777 is fine. I'd personally go for an A300.

OP specifies high-demand routes. Regional aircraft have far too little capacity.

A320 and 737 families both have their advantages and disadvantages; if demand is high enough I would add some A330-300 diagrams.

ok thank you all! 747D is an interesting point, i will definitely try it. i hadnt been considering widebody aircraft for routes as short as these, that is good to know. thanks again!

True, though I think A300 is probably the best choice. It has good range and capacity, a long production run, and can easily handle a wide range of demand.
A310-300 if you want more range than a -600R, but generally a 600 or 600R will do you just fine.

Depends on the location and level of realism you're looking for really - for example, it wouldn't be unheard of to put a bunch of 777s on a route like ICN-NRT, but that wouldn't really make sense on JFK-ATL (about the same distance).

this is interesting, and good to know. im curious why it wouldnt make sense on the american route? the demand is similar i think

The numbers work out, but if you're looking for a high level of realism, the market dynamics are fundamentally very different. Most American domestic routes IRL prioritize high frequencies, and widebodies on US domestic flights are typically either transcontinental flights or positioning segments (e.g. UA sometimes running 767s on EWR-IAD so that aircraft can operate EWR-LHR-EWR-IAD-LHR-IAD trips. Contrast this with IRL short-haul routes throughout SE Asia and eastern Asia, where you'll see routes with similar demand operating fewer frequencies and larger-capacity aircraft.
