How to use the Metal Fuselage on Med's Templates?

As a Photoshop amateur, I'm wondering how to correctly use the Metal Fuselage on Med's templates. I'm looking to keep the feel of the retro look but don't want it to be watered down with the plain white fuselage. I'm wondering how you can correctly make a livery in that regard.

No, I'm asking how to incorporate the metal layer with the white. I'm trying to have a metal belly with a painted top section.

Go to the metal layer and cut out what parts you don't want to be visible on the fuselage, then paint on the white layer

I just paint a white base layer on top of the metal fuselage (in the metal fuselage layer), leaving the amount of metal showing I want for the design.

That's what I do as well. Then use masking (there's plenty of online info about it).

I use the pen tool and chop off the metal I don’t need

How do you use the pen tool? For some reason I always have trouble using it to make curved edges on liveries...

Pretty simple. It's click and drag for curves. It's relatively intuitive so if you bump into any trouble you come talk to me.
