This has been making the rounds in a surprising number of media outlets, but I thought I'd post it to AE to see if anyone here had some opinions or thoughts.

Summary: The FlightSimLabs A320X Installer for P3D V4 was found to contain a Chrome Password Dump tool, which if activated would take any passwords stored in the Chrome browser and upload them directly to an FSLabs server. More information can be found in the links below:

The Reddit post from the person who discovered the Malware:

https://www.reddit.c...clude_a_chrome/

Post detailing the malware and exactly how it operates:

https://www.fidusinf...-combat-piracy/

FSLabs response:

https://forums.fligh...-what-happened/

This is certainly the biggest flight sim news I've seen, making onto mainstream tech websites like Motherboard and Ars Technica. However, Avsim has been deleting threads about this, so I thought I'd bring some discussion here.

Thoughts?

The new Flight Factor A320 for X-Plane should include free antivirus.

yea maybe a free copy of SpySheriff

In all honesty, this is shocking. They're claiming it was a mistake, but let's be honest, it wasn't.

It is definately very disturbing that a software company with quality software, years of experience and serious loyal customer would use such strategy to "defend piracy" of its products.

What is even more distrurbing is that they tried to hide the existence of the malware until it went public everywhere on the internet. Simply pathetic

This same guy used to work for PMDG and their MD-11 also had this malware with it, which is why its no longer available.
