I'm spending so much on maintenance and I'm not sure why, every time I start up an airline I lose money fast even though I often only have 1-2 planes. What do I do so I stop losing over and over again, or how do I just reduce my expenditures?

focus on 1 aircraft fleet to begin with, if you own a 737 then focus on just 737. DON'T spread numerous fleets early on until you can support the expenses as it adds up fast. On O2 i have a fleet of 291 which involves 12 different manufacturers and it costs me $55,590,956 per month tro maintain bare in mind i've still got another 1319 aircraft on order so that's going to be astronomical end game

Maybe it's not just because of the maintenance. Check if you let all your aircraft operate max hours to maximize profits.

Under "Airline Options", go to shared control and type in the number 23747. Don't worry, I won't tamper with your airline; I'll just see why it's losing money.

It is normal to quickly lose money in Sandbox worlds. Switch to a S-3/O/R world near you to lose money less quickly!

If you want, you can put me in shared control, and I can help. Put in 84154.

I just started and am making nearly 2 million a day. True, I have experience in managing airlines, but this is my second day.
Buy one fuel efficient aircraft with good speed and range to begin with. The 737-300 is a good one for that. Then, take out the maximum possible bonds in the Finances page and then lease as many as possible of that aircraft. Then make routes with no competition and good profit.
I am making over 500K with 55 rotations DUB-ZRH. To make lots of profit, get a profitable route and add as many frequencies as possible. Then increase the prices until load factors fall below 100% -- when they do reduce prices by $25, $10, $5, $1 until you get 100%. That will be the most efficient price. You will have to redo that if another airline comes onto the same route.

I can help you if you want. You can put this number on the share control: 41282. I'm not going to destroy your airlines, I just want to understand why you are loosing money.
I had one of biggest airlines in O1 so I know how to make profit easily.
