I'm also looking forward to playing R0, but I heard you shoudn't get the VC-1 as your starter because it goes out of production before the game starts so you can't order any more.

You will need a lot of patience, & a lot of chocolate. Good luck all. Been there, won that (well, about to...).

Looking forward to playing R0 again. Was really fun while it lasted. I can tell you within the first 5 years, most routes will still be relatively unfilled due to most planes not having over 3000 mile range and being super slow. Less populous gates will be better, like Key West can be really used. But there's one thing to keep in your head.

NEVER ORDER THE LOCKHEED STARLINER. EVER

What is so bad about it? It doesn't seem to have massively bad stats.

Too slow to make any profit on international routes and too long turnaround time for any domestic routes. If I remember correctly the turn time is like 45 minutes

However it seems to be the only long ranged aircraft for quite some time, so any airline seeking to move into the long-haul market will have to use it.

However it is expensive compared to other aircraft, I think I'll just wait for the Britannia, because it's bigger, faster and cheaper.

It depends on the market you re flying from. The Starliner comes handy to fly from Europe to South America, Central America, the west coast of the USA and the Far East. If you fly it in a realistic 54C configuration it can make quite a good profit. That said, whether you like to play realistically or not, that's up to you.

Be sure to have a good look at the fuel stats before ordering new planes, some of the early jets are terrible and if you're competing on a route against propeller planes you'll never make money.

If you want to go long range early on, in this game with no fuel stops, the Starliner is a must have. I've never had any problems making money with it, from Europe to Asia I'd have between 3-5 on a route depending on demand, in a 2/10/80 config.

The CL-44 is a very useful plane for both short and medium haul. Also have a look at the TU-114, if your airports have the runway length, it's a good money maker.

It can be a real scheduling headache replacing propeller fleets with jets when the time comes, you'll have to keep an eye on speeds and turnaround times when ordering replacements.

Have fun!

1958-1969:
Good jets:
DC-8-50
Boeing 707-120/320
Caravelle I
Boeing 737-100/200
Any BAC 1-11 version
Fokker jets
DC-9 any except for the DC-9-20
Boeing 720
Boeing 727-100/200

Decent but beware:
Convair 880/990
707-420
TU-124
Any Caravelle that isnt I
DC-9-20

Definitely NO GO:
707-220
DH Comet IV
Vickers VC10 and super VC10
IL-62
TU-104
Any DC-8 except for DC-8-50

That if you max out your planes, if you play realistically like me, stick to the "good" jets

If you have destinations you want to reach that have limited gate numbers, go for them first; especially ones out of country as you won't have the option to build terminals.  Because so many of the aircraft are so small, I find that people go heavy on frequencies in order to fill demand.  This results in gates getting filled up far sooner.  It can make expansion a bit difficult after a few game years.  There will always be some airports with gates available of course, but it can be frustrating if you have some destinations you really want to get to but can't.

I find the Super VC-10 a pretty decent plane, and I've made good money with the Il-62. On the other hand I hate the Tu-124. Also you forgot the 727 and the 737-200 (off the top of my head). Also the DC9-20 isn't very good. More expensive with less range and stuff.

I don't like R0 much but yea, not much to say old aircrafts in the early years and slow switch to modern ones. Money saving needs to be done as growing is a thing in the years.

If all you want is a gold trophy, wait until it is around year 2000, then start your new airline.

There's more you forgot about. To be specific it's the HS Trident series (1C and 1E in 1964 and 1966), the Douglas DC8 Super Sixties, the 737-100, the Tupolev 134-A, the Tupolev 154 Base model, the 747-100, and the Yakovlev Yak-40. Mighta forgot more but I think that's it.

Use the  most efficient airplanes possible, and try find mid-range demand routes with little competition for DC6s (500-2500mi)

If you don't care about realism -

before production ends, order as many Tu-114s and CL-44s as possible - try to get them delivered well into 21st century

The Trident except the 1C are also good planes.

The 1C are bad because they have only 103 seats and a higher fuel flow as the other variants.
